Stalls
The Stalls occupy the ground floor of the Woking Theatre, running from Row A at the front through to Row T at the rear. With around 600 seats across the full width of the auditorium, the Stalls offer the most immersive experience at Woking Theatre — you’re close to the action, at the same level as the stage, and surrounded by the atmosphere of a large touring production.
The Stalls are well-raked, meaning the floor rises progressively towards the back, which gives good sightlines even from the rear rows. This is a significant advantage over older flat-floored theatres where rear Stalls seats can feel blocked.
Best Stalls seats
Rows E–K, centre: The sweet spot for most productions. Far enough back to see the full stage picture, close enough to see performers’ expressions clearly, and benefiting from the best rake of the Stalls. For musicals in particular, these seats give you the ideal balance of spectacle and intimacy. These are typically the most popular and highest-priced Stalls seats.
Rows L–N, centre: Excellent value seats that are often significantly cheaper than mid-Stalls while offering very similar sightlines thanks to the rake. A strong choice if you want good central views without paying premium prices.
Good value Stalls seats
Rows P–T, centre: The rear Stalls are further from the stage but the consistent rake means sightlines remain clear. For large-scale musicals where the overall spectacle matters more than facial detail, these seats represent excellent value — often the most affordable way to see a production in the Stalls.
Side Stalls seats: The angled seats on the outer edges of each row give a slightly oblique view of the stage. The compact design of the Woking Theatre means even the outermost side seats are not extreme — most productions can be enjoyed comfortably from these positions, and they are often noticeably cheaper than equivalent central seats.
Stalls seats to think carefully about
Rows A–C: The front rows are very close to the stage and require you to look steeply upward. For some productions — particularly dance or ballet where you want to see footwork detail — this close proximity is exciting. For large musicals with complex staging, being too close can make it harder to appreciate the full picture. Many theatregoers find Rows D–E the ideal compromise between closeness and comfort.
Royal Circle
The Royal Circle is the first balcony level at Woking Theatre, running from Row A at the front through to Row H at the rear. Many experienced theatregoers consider the Royal Circle — particularly the central front rows — to offer the finest views in the house.
The elevation of the Royal Circle gives you a perfect sightline across the full width and depth of the stage, without the neck strain of front Stalls or the distance of the Upper Circle. For complex productions with elaborate staging, choreography, or large ensemble numbers, the Royal Circle perspective lets you appreciate everything the creative team has put onstage.
Best Royal Circle seats
Rows A–C, centre: Widely regarded as the best seats in the Woking Theatre. The elevation is perfect — high enough to see the full stage, close enough to see performers clearly. Central positioning means no side-angle compromise. For most productions, especially musicals, these seats are hard to beat at any price point in the building. Book early as these go quickly.
Rows D–E, centre: Slightly further back than the front rows but still offering excellent central Royal Circle views. Often a little more affordable than Rows A–C while providing a very similar experience. A smart choice if front Royal Circle is sold out or over budget.
Good value Royal Circle seats
Rows F–H, centre: The rear of the Royal Circle is further from the stage but the consistent sightlines of the Woking Theatre mean these seats are still perfectly enjoyable. For those on a tighter budget who want the elevated Royal Circle perspective rather than the Stalls, these seats offer good value.
Royal Circle sides: The side seats in the Royal Circle have a slight angle towards the stage. Woking Theatre’s modern design means even the outer Royal Circle seats offer reasonable views, though extreme outer seats in the higher rows may have a more pronounced angle. These seats are typically among the most affordable in the Royal Circle.
Royal Circle seats to think carefully about
Row A, extreme outer sides: The very outermost seats in the front Royal Circle combine a side angle with the safety rail at the front of the balcony. The rail is generally unobtrusive for most adults, but combined with an extreme side position this can create some view restriction depending on the production’s staging.
Upper Circle
The Upper Circle is the highest seating level at Woking Theatre, with Rows A, B, and C offering a bird’s-eye view of the stage. As the most affordable seating section, the Upper Circle is a popular choice for budget-conscious theatregoers and those who prefer an elevated overview of large-scale productions.
Best Upper Circle seats
Row A, centre: The front row of the Upper Circle gives the best views from this level — you’re high up but you can see the full stage clearly, and the distance is less pronounced than in the rows behind. For spectacle shows — big West End musicals with large casts and elaborate choreography — these seats offer impressive value.
Row B, centre: A good second option in the Upper Circle. Slightly more distant than Row A but still offering clear central sightlines.
Upper Circle considerations
The Upper Circle is best suited to large-scale productions where the overall spectacle matters more than seeing facial expressions in close detail. For intimate plays or performances where subtle acting is central to the experience, you may find the distance frustrating.
The climb to the Upper Circle involves a significant number of stairs as there is no lift access to this level — worth bearing in mind if you have mobility considerations. The Stalls and Royal Circle are both accessible by lift.
Upper Circle seats are typically the most affordable in the house and are a great option for first-time visitors who want to experience a show at Woking Theatre without a large outlay.
Boxes
Woking Theatre has private boxes on both sides of the auditorium at Royal Circle and Upper Circle levels — Boxes A through K. Boxes offer a unique and intimate theatre experience, with a private seating area separate from the main auditorium.
Bear in mind that boxes at most theatres involve a side-on viewing angle — you are looking across the stage rather than straight at it. This is part of the character of box seating but does mean you may miss some staging that is directed at the central audience. Boxes are ideal for groups or special occasions where the experience and privacy of the setting matters as much as optimal sightlines.
Accessibility at the Woking Theatre
Woking Theatre has good accessibility provision throughout the auditorium. Step-free access is available to the Stalls and Royal Circle via lifts.
